Planning a kitchen update? Take inspiration from these trending yet timeless ideas.
There's a good reason why they say kitchens sell homes. These high-traffic areas set the tone for the rest of the house and are where we socialise and spend a great deal of time. So it makes sense to invest in a beautiful design that you love and that can also increase your chances of selling your home later down the track!
There are endless options when it comes to kitchen design, but one of our favourite places to pull design inspiration from is what is currently trending. And while trends can be fleeting, incorporating certain design elements can help you create a beautiful, timeless space that you'll love to cook and entertain in.
From mixed materials to wallpaper, these are the top kitchen trends to keep an eye out for in 2024 whether you're renovating or just want to make a small update.
Mixed materials
This year we'll see more mixed materials being used in kitchens. This brings a custom and layered look to a space. Contrasting materials such as Venetian plaster, marble, and tiles allow us to showcase our personalities and combine the very best elements of different eras e.g. modern design elements in classic homes. It also allows us to create zones in open-plan spaces and assist with organised workflow – you can create areas that are designed specifically for food prep or sitting and eating.
Metal finishes
Metallic finishes and accents are having their moment in 2024, bringing sleek and contemporary flair to a kitchen. From brass and copper to stainless steel and brushed nickel, mixing these materials can provide a timeless and layered look in your culinary space.
Bold marble
Marble is a staple material for premium kitchens, and 2024 is saying goodbye to subtle variations and hello to bold colours. Jewel-toned marble adds drama to a kitchen while remaining timeless and luxurious. Consider matching your countertops to your backsplash, or if your budget is more conservative, opt for a statement-making backsplash only or a rangehood trim.
Wallpaper
If you aren't in a position to do a full kitchen renovation or you live in a rental, the wallpaper kitchen trend is an easy way to freshen up your space. Bold patterns and prints, particularly those that are retro or nature-inspired (like this one from House of Hackney) are trending, but if you're more minimalist you can opt for subtle vertical stripes or neutral tones. Eye-catching wallpaper can even help make a small space look bigger so if you're kitchen is on the petite size, this trend is perfect for you!
Dark hues
The all-white kitchen is (almost) a thing of the past in 2024. Darker hues such as deep blues, browns and greens, rich greys, and blacks will bring a cocooning and cosy effect to your home. These tones can be applied to everything from cabinetry to surfaces, making your kitchen look homely and inviting.
Multifunctional kitchen islands
From being a place to eat, work, and prepare food, kitchen islands are taking centre stage in kitchens in 2024. These workstations feature integrated seating, storage, and sinks, making them a multifunctional powerhouse in the home. More specific trends within the kitchen island space are designs with different levels, double islands, and those with striking finishes.
