What is the response rate for course evaluations? ›

Give students time in class

Instructors who provide students time in class to complete their evaluations, see an average response rate of 83% (compared to an average response rate of 59% for those who did not). Devoting class time shows students that the evaluations are important to you.

Generally, results below 3.5 should be of concern, while 3.5 to 4 represent solid results, and mean scores over 4 are considered strong. As well, it is advisable to follow-up on any result that is more than . 5 below or above the comparison mean (department, Faculty by level or class size).

A survey response rate of 50% or higher should be considered excellent in most circ*mstances.
