It’s been awhile since I’ve done a book post. Sorry for the delay! Here are a few of my recent favorites.

What I've Been Reading III - Two Peas & Their Pod (2)

I was at the library and randomly picked up Frienship Bread. I love the bread so I decided to try the book. The story takes place in a small town in Illinois and tells how a simple recipe brings together family, friends, and a community. I highly recommend this one!

Sarah’s Key has been on my “to read” list for a long time. I don’t know why it took me so long to get to it because I absolutely loved every page. If you haven’t read this book, don’t waste anymore time. This is a book you will never forget. They just came out with a movie too. I plan on seeing it, but I always like to read the book first. The books are almost always better than the movie:)

What I've Been Reading III - Two Peas & Their Pod (4)

I am loving Kate Jacob’s books. First, I read Comfort Food. Yes, I like to read books about food:) I really enjoyed it so I went to the library and picked up The Friday Night Knitting Club.

What I've Been Reading III - Two Peas & Their Pod (5)

I finished the book in a day, so I moved on to the second book in the series, Knit Two. I’vebeen making a lot of trips to the library:)

What I've Been Reading III - Two Peas & Their Pod (6)

I am already done with that book so now I am reading the final book in the series, Knit the Season.

What I've Been Reading III - Two Peas & Their Pod (7)

Hopefully, it will be as good as the other two books. I am sure it will be because I love the characters. And you don’t need to know how to knit to enjoy these books. I can’t sew on a button and I have really enjoyed the series:)

What have you been reading lately? Please share in the comments. I am always looking for new books to read!

You seriously must have been reading my mind! Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU! 🙂

I just finished reading all three of the hunger games books and all three of the girl with the ____ books… all good reads – very popular.

    A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron (a FANTASTIC book… a shed a few tears for sure!)

  5. I read Sarah’s Key recently too and saw the movie. I thought the movie was great, it really captured the message of the book and was very moving. I just finished a young adult series, The Secret Circle, I really want to read The Kitchen Daughter next, heard good things!

  7. I loved this post, I always enjoy reading book reviews. Sarah’s Key looks like an amazing book, I’ll have to read that. A couple weeks ago I read One Day, I absolutely loved it and I couldn’t put it down. It was such a beautiful and heartbreaking story and I have yet to see the movie. Right now I’m reading George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. This one is going to take me a while…

  8. My boyfriend and I saw Sarah’s Key at the movies a few weeks ago, and we both loved it! About 80 percent of the movie is in French, which was very interesting–and very authentic, I thought. It definitely made me want to read the book! I usually read the book versions of things before I see the movie versions, so I’ll be interested to see how the story played out on the page. 🙂

  12. Just finished reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Reuben. Started reading The Greater Journey by David McCullough. Love his books. Am also reading the three-volume series on The Civil War by Shelby Foote. I tend to read more than one book at a time.

  14. Loved the Kate Jacobs books and Sarah’s Key was one of the more haunting stories that I have read in the last few years — one of the previous comments highlighted Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and I wholeheartedly agree. I would also throw Alice Genova’s books out there – “Still Alice” will stay with you long after the book is put down and “Left Neglected” in also quite compelling.

  15. My sister in law just recommended Sarah’s Key to me, so now I’ll have to put it on my Kindle. Glad to hear about the other two Knitting books. Read the first one and Comfort Food and enjoyed them, but I have a hard time with books that are series, usually not liking the later ones. I’ll have to get them. Thanks for the recommendations. You probably won’t have much time to read soon.

The Kate Jacobs books sound interesting, I’ll have to check for those. Thanks for the recommendations.

Sarah’s Key is just wonderful! If you’re looking for another great WWII read, I recommend The Skeletons at the Feast.

I recently read The Murderer’s Daughters and thought it was pretty good…also read The Forgotten Garden for bookclub and it seems like it’d be up your alley!

Keep up the book posts 🙂

  19. The Movie Sarah’s Key was just as good as the book. I cried the entire movie and loved every single moment of it. (Well, I didn’t love the horrible events – but the story was told so well.)

I recently finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and loved it! One of my friends is reading it now and we’re starting a book club in a couple of weeks.

    1. I’ve heard good things about that book. Adding it to my list:)

  22. Yes, my girls and I loved Sarah’s Key. Haven’t seen the movie yet because I was afraid they would ruin the story as they usually do when books go to movies. Glad to hear it was good. Read Shanghai Girls by Lisa See, she’s a wonderful author. I just finished the sequel, Dreams of Joy. I’m sorry to lose the characters now that I finished the books. Mrs. Kimble by Jennifer Haigh is also good. My friends and I had a virtual book club this summer, just sharing good titles with each other. It was a fun experience. I use this resource: http://bookpage.com for lots of good book reviews, from children to adults. They have several newsletters that you can register for on their site.

  23. I LOVE the Friday Night Knitting Club books! I enjoy reading about the bonds between the family and friends. A favorite recent read was Julia’s Chocolates by Cathy Lamb. It’s all over the place in a good way (family, abusive relationships, following your dreams, love story) and I loved it to pieces!

  24. Have you read any of Sarah Addison Allen’s books? I adore her! And she’s got the food theme going in some of them:
    The Sugar Queen
The Girl Who Chased the Moon
    Garden Spells
    The Peach Keeper

  25. I am currently reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Lovely story so far about 2 girls/women in China. I recently read Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin. It’s about the girl who inspired Alice in Wonderland. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it at first, but by the end I really enjoyed it. Very touching and real.

  26. Oh my gosh, I am LOVING the Friday Night Knitting Club! I’ve never paid much attention to book suggestions from people, mostly because I used to just buy the book, so I didn’t want to waste my money if it wasn’t any good. But after realized that the last three books my sister has suggested have been terrible (and after becoming better acquainted with the local library!) I saw your post and decided to give it a go. Thanks for sharing, I’m LOVING having something new and wonderful to enjoy!

  27. Maria. All these sound so good! I’ve been wanting to read the Friday Night Knitting Club and will have to start it soon. The last book I finished was Between a Rock and a Hard Place. It was incredible! I am currently reading The Picture of Dorian Gray and really enjoying it too!

    Yay for reading!
