Are top knobs high quality? ›

While there is no set rule, we generally recommend that the pull length is approximately 1/3 of the cabinet or drawer width. Small Drawers that are 12” or less typically work best with a pull that is 3” to 4” long or a knob that is 1” in diameter.

Across the board, designers agree that textured finishes are set to be one of the biggest kitchen hardware trends of 2024. Say goodbye to sleek finishes and hello to hammered, brushed, and knurled finishes on both knobs and pulls.

The general rule is to place a knob 2 ½ to 3 inches from the corner of the door. For upper cabinets, install knobs in the bottom corners of the door. For lower cabinets, place them in the upper corners. If you are installing pulls on your cabinet doors, they should be placed vertically.

With oak cabinets, black hardware provides a much-needed contrast that is sleek and modern. The dark colour draws attention away from what appears to be outdated cabinetry. Black door hardware is also a good choice for oak cabinets and appliances that have recently been updated.

Installing knobs on your upper cabinets and pulls on your lower cabinets is an excellent way to coordinate your hardware and create visual interest. Knobs are easier to grip higher up, so you can access the contents of your upper cabinets safely.

If your kitchen is a high-traffic area, choose a durable handle that won't corrode or chip easily. Stainless steel and bronze are great materials to consider as they are durable and attractive. For a more modern look, consider acrylic handles; if you're going for a traditional feel, consider wood.

Knobs on Uppers, Pulls on Lowers

For the best of both worlds, use a mixture of knobs and pulls. To make the combination look harmonious, we suggest one of two options. The first suggestion is to put knobs on all upper cabinets and pulls on all lower cabinets.

In 2024, rich colors like emerald and blueberry are expected to dominate kitchen cabinetry. When using such bright and vivid colors, it's important to strike the right balance.

Use the ⅓ rule, which states that the best pull length is about ⅓ of the height of the cabinet door and ⅓ the width of the cabinet drawer. For knobs, 1-¼” is a good choice. For a more minimalistic look, size down. If you want to make more of a statement, size up.

Center of the Stile: Knobs and pulls can be placed halfway up the stile of your Shaker door. Keep in mind you'll want to be able to reach the handles, since they will be placed higher up along the stile. Just Above or Below the Corners: Place the knobs or pulls 2'' to 3'' from the lower or upper corner.

The height of drawer fronts vary, but you can usually place your hardware in the center of your drawer front with most height ranges. The exception to this is when the height of a drawer front is greater than 12'' – in this case, we recommend placing the hardware towards the top of the drawer front.

Classic Door Knobs: Often rounded or shaped like a sphere, these are easy to grip and twist. These simple, traditional knobs work well with almost any home interior. Because this style is easy to find and replace if needed, it's one of the best door knobs to use.
