e-SHRAM Card Online Registration: Ministry of Labour and Employment rolled out an e-SHRAM portal for the welfare of unorganized workers last year which will be seeded with the Aadhaar of the labourers. e-SHRAM Card Registration: For the welfare of unorganized workers in the country, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has launched the e-SHRAM portal on 26 August 2021. The portal will help the government in creating a National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW) and will be seeded with Aadhaar.

Over 25 crore unorganized workers in the country have registered under the portal. The registration on the portal is free of cost and the individuals need not pay anything during their registration at Common Service Centres (CSCs), or Regional Offices of State Government.

Upon successful registration, the workers will receive an e-SHRAM card having a unique Universal Account Number (UAN) through which the benefits of the various social security schemes can be accessed.The portal will have details of the individual such as name, occupation, address, educational qualification, skillset, and family details to extend benefits of the social security schemes to them.

e-SHRAM Card: How to check instalment status?

You can check payment status through any of the below-mentioned ways:

1- Check messages on the mobile number registered with the bank.

2- Check your account balance.

3- Update your passbook.

e-SHRAM Card Eligibility Criteria

The portal is the first-ever national database of unorganized workers. Under this, the central government will issue a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) for around 38 crores of unorganized workers. Check eligibility criteria below before applying for the e-SHRAM card:

  1. Any worker such as migrant worker, gig workers, platform workers, and MGNREGA working in an unorganized sector.
  2. The age of the worker should be between 16-59.
  3. The applicant must not be a member of EPFO and ESIC.
  4. The worker should not be a taxpayer.

E-SHRAM Card Registration

The workers can register by following the below steps:

  1. Visit the official website of e-SHRAM-- https://register.eshram.gov.in/#/user/self
  2. Enter credentials as asked.
  3. Click on ‘Send OTP’.
  4. Now fill in all the required details.
  5. Upload documents as asked.
  6. Click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  7. Take a printout of the application form for future reference.

The registration can also be done via Common Services Centers (CSC) NDUW or through the regional offices of the state government in the districts or sub-districts.

The benefits of an e-SHRAM card are as follows:

  1. Financial support
  2. Social security scheme benefits
  3. More job opportunity
  4. Premium wave for 1 year
  5. Track migrant laborers workforce
  6. Accidental insurance of Rs. 2 lakhs (in the event of death/ total disability)
  7. Rs. 1 lakh for the registered workers in case of partial disability

During emergency and national pandemic-like situations, the database can be used by the government to provide necessary assistance to the eligible unorganized workers.

Significance of e-SHRAM Card

The e-SHRAM card received by the workers will help them in availing themselves of the jobs in the future. Additionally, the database will help the government in shaping new policies, creating jobs in the future, and launching schemes for the workers.

The government aims to register 38 crores unorganized workers. The database can be used by the government in delivering various social security schemes implemented by the Central and State Governments.
