This fantastic news! Repurposing drugs for diseases is a great idea, especially Parkinson’s.Here’s how to build a graph to repurpose more drugs! Great article Francois Vanderseypen https://lnkd.in/eSUuFrCwhttps://lnkd.in/ecg-HYX4

By harnessing the power of photosynthesis, a team at Concordia University in Wisconsin developed micro photosynthetic power cells that generate electricity from algae. These cells capture electrons produced during photosynthesis, turning them into a continuous electrical current. The researchers found that it actually has a dual benefit. It not only produces clean energy but also absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, making it a negative carbon emission technology. The only byproduct is water, highlighting its environmental friendliness.https://lnkd.in/ejQNYkAB

Remarkably, when aged mice engaged in regular voluntary exercise, their microglia showed a gene expression profile similar to that of young mice. This indicates that exercise can effectively reverse the aging process in microglia, restoring their gene expression to a more youthful, anti-inflammatory state. The cognitive benefits of exercise were demonstrated through a behavioral test known as the active place avoidance task, which measures spatial learning and memory. Aged mice that had access to a running wheel performed significantly better on this task than their sedentary counterparts, indicating that exercise can improve cognitive function even in an aging brain. This improvement in cognitive performance was likely linked to the observed cellular and molecular changes, particularly the rejuvenation of microglia and the reduction in brain inflammation. Our study provides further evidence and demonstrates that exercise changes the brain at the cellular level,” Vukovic said. “Exercise changes the immune landscape in the ageing brain to the more youthful state and these changes are associated with improvement in learning and memory.”The study offers promising evidence that exercise can counteract age-related changes in the brain, particularly by rejuvenating microglia. The findings contribute to our understanding of how physical activity can benefit cognitive health and open up new avenues for developing interventions to prevent or slow cognitive decline during aging.https://lnkd.in/eZYUtZUY

This is excellent news for brain health! When construction on the facility, which includes six hyperbaric chambers, is done, Dituri hopes to do a study with around 450 to 600 veterans dealing with mild to moderate traumatic brain injuries to see if pressurized breathing, like what he did underwater, will help that group of people.https://lnkd.in/eDzTdW39

"Tools like CRISPR/Cas9 are accelerating our ability to fine-tune gene expression in crops, rather than just knocking out genes or turning them 'off.' Past research has shown that this tool can be used to decrease expression of genes involved in important trade-offs, such as those between plant architecture and fruit size," said Dhruv Patel-Tupper, lead author on the study and former postdoctoral researcher in the Niyogi Lab at UCB."This is the first study, to our knowledge, where we asked if we can use the same approach to increase the expression of a gene and improve downstream activity in an unbiased way."https://lnkd.in/emCc-FVh
