Bryan’s commitment and efforts here at Boise State cannot be understated- especially as a first year GA in a newly created Ticket Ops GA position. I’m so proud of what he’s accomplished, the work he’s done and how he’s learned and grown this year. He’s helped take on so much and helped of our ticket team maximize our own efforts, while helping each of his sports grow and finding new ways to support our operations!I knew we had a good one when I first interviewed Bryan, and he’s been an incredible addition to our team and to our Masters of Arhletic Leadership program. I’m excited to see what year 2 holds!CC: Jeramiah Dickey Cody Gougler

The Power of Being Coachable: A Lesson from Youth VolleyballReflecting on my experience coaching youth volleyball over five years ago, I'm reminded of the invaluable lesson of being coachable. It's fascinating to see how this trait has shaped the trajectory of young athletes. In that program, I witnessed firsthand the impact of coachability, attitude, and effort on a player's journey. Fast forward to today, and I'm struck by the remarkable correlation: Over 98% of the kids I coached who are still actively involved in high school and travel volleyball are the same ones who demonstrated coachability, maintained positive attitudes, and consistently put in the effort during practice.Conversely, those who struggled with coachability, harbored negative attitudes, and lacked effort are noticeably absent from the competitive volleyball scene. This isn't just about volleyball; it's a testament to the universal benefits of being coachable. It's about embracing feedback, remaining open to learning and growth, and consistently striving for improvement. As professionals, the parallels are undeniable. Whether in sports or in our careers, being coachable is the key to unlocking our full potential. It's about recognizing that we don't have all the answers, but we have the willingness to listen, learn, and adapt.#Coachability #Attitude #Effort #GrowthMindset #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerAdvice #Volleyball #YouthSports

It hit me recently that the way we "score" our personal performance can make or break us. Consider the metrics for success in gymnastics and baseball. In gymnastics you start with perfection (10.0) and deduct points for mess-ups. In baseball you start with nothing (.000) and add points for achievement.A gymnastics score in the mid 8's is considered average. In baseball, hitting 30% of the times you're at-bat (i.e. failing 70% of the time) makes you elite ... and hitting anything over 40% (failing 60% of the time) is legendary. The games of life, leadership and professional development are a lot like baseball. We swing at a lot of stuff that comes at us fast and is spinning and changing directions. We often miss. But (if we're paying attention) every strike out helps us improve for the next time we're at bat.The problem is though life is played like baseball, we score it using a gymnastics approach. We beat ourselves up for every mistake, and feel like failures over anything that's less than perfection.Don't get down on yourself because you're not perfect (no one else is perfect, by the way). Keep at it. Don't give up. Swing with more intention next time. Learn and do it better. As Jacob Brown encourages us: #FailForward.#leadershipdevelopment #leadershipcoaching #AreYouWhoYouWantToBe #leadershipidentity
