20 Modern Passover Recipes For Your Seder Feast
Sara Cagle
Mar 20, 2024
The Passover Seder is steeped in tradition, but that doesn't mean your meal has to be completely conventional. Here are 20 modern takes on classic Passover dishes, like Manischewitz-spiked co*cktails and matzo-based chocolate bars. (Don't let the word "modern" scare you; there's still plenty of smoked fish, matzo ball soup, and kugel in the mix.)
When is Passover in 2023?
Passover begins the evening of April 22, 2024, and lasts through the evening of Apr 30, 2024.
What is the traditional meal for Passover?
The traditional meal for Passover includes a mix of symbolic foods. Meat, eggs, fruit and vegetables, herbs, and saltwater all have a place on the Seder plate, though more modern passover meals make some variations on the ingredients included.
What are the 6 foods of Passover?
A lamb’s bone (Zeroah), roasted egg (Beitzah), fruit and nut paste (Haroset), bitter herbs like horseradish (Mar’or), green vegetables (Karpas), and a small bowl of salt water are the 6 main foods of Passover.
What food is forbidden on Passover?
Some traditions celebrate the jewish holiday with restrictions on leavened bread (chometz). Breads made from wheat, oat, spelt, rye or barley are not eaten on Passover.
The Best Foods To Make For Your Passover Meals
Smoked Salmon Platter
Now that everyone has a drink, get the party started with a show-stopping salmon platter, complete with cukes, tomatoes, red onion, and tons of shmear. Replace the bagels with matzo to hold all those toppings. (via How Sweet Eats)
Matzo Ball Soup
This Passover classic is traditionally made with chicken. Welcome your vegetarian friends to the table with a meat-free version. (via Foodal)
Salmon Instant Pot Dinner
If you're hosting a small Passover Seder, use your Instant Pot to create a full meal of steamed fish, potatoes, and veg. (via Brit + Co.)
Roasted Beef Tenderloin With French Onion Au Jus
Feeling fancier than brisket? This thyme-crusted tenderloin is simpler than it looks but is definitely main-course worthy. Just be sure to omit the butter or replace it with a dairy-free substitute. (via Half Baked Harvest)
Matzo Schnitzel
With matzo meal and potato starch, crispy breaded chicken free of leavened ingredients can be yours for your Passover crowd to enjoy. (via Jamie Geller)
Instant-Pot Pot Roast
Embrace the modern-day craze for the Instant Pot (and the Whole30 diet) with this nourishing pot roast, which incorporates more veggies than the traditional version. (via Life Made Sweeter)
Kofta Kebabs
These kebabs have just six ingredients but are intensely flavorful from cozy cinnamon and aromatic basil. Swap out Passover Panko or matzo meal for the breadcrumbs. These have a tahini dressing, which can be left out depending on if your family consumes kitniyot during Passover or not. (via Jamie Geller)
Instant Pot Steamed Artichokes
Celebrate the classic fried artichokes of the Roman Jewish Ghetto with this lighter version, which steams in 10 minutes in the Instant Pot. (via Cotter Crunch)
Beet and Carrot Fritters
Switch up the Passover table's very beige (yet delicious) color scheme with these bright and healthy beet fritters. (via Leite's Culinaria)
Creamy Vegan Risotto With Asparagus and Quinoa
Quinoa is technically a seed, not a grain, so many people give it the seal of approval on Passover. Use it to concoct this risotto, which gets its creamy texture from a purée of roasted cauliflower, beans, and almond milk. However, if you are avoiding beans, just sub in more cauliflower. (via Well Plated by Erin)
Matzo Farfel Stuffing
Dates add an unexpected sweetness to this comforting tray of matzo pieces, mushrooms, and aromatic veggies. (via Jamie Geller)
Roasted Eggplant Salad
Juicy pomegranate seeds can make any dish look festive, as proven by this bed of seasoned roasted eggplant and pine nuts. Dress it in lemon juice, sea salt, and olive oil if you are not consuming kitniyot like tahini sauce. (via Foraged Dish)
Make These Delicious Desserts And Sweets For Passover
Vanilla Noodle Kugel
Use Passover-friendly (usually matzo-based) egg noodles and wafer cookies for this kugel, which balances the sweet notes of vanilla and sugar with the tangier flavor of sour cream. (via Tori Avey)
Flourless Chocolate Fudge Cake
Butter, chocolate, eggs, and sugar make a shockingly fudgy cake — no flour necessary. You can always sub in vegan butter if you plan on eating the meal less than two hours after consuming meat. (via Baker by Nature)
Waffle-Iron Latkes 5 Ways
Modernize the traditional latke by cooking it in a waffle iron and adorning it with updated toppings, like crème fraîche and apple butter or Greek yogurt and pomegranate. (via Brit + Co.)
Dessert-Wine Poached Pears
A holiday without flour is an opportunity to get creative with fruit. These pears are poached in simple syrup, honey, and dessert wine until warm and tender. Serve them with non-dairy vanilla ice cream for a glorious temperature contrast. (via Drizzle and Dip)
Passover Apple Cake
Matzo cake meal is the secret ingredient in this nutty, apple-rich, and raisin-studded cake. (via Leite's Culinaria)
5-Ingredient Magic Matzo Chocolate Bars
Have the kids in the family make these crunchy-chewy chocolate bars. The recipe is a simple matter of layering, sprinkling, and drizzling, so it can't go too awry. (via Half Baked Harvest)
Passover Chocolate Chip Cookies
As long as you have matzo meal, you don't have to give up chocolate chip cookies during Passover. (via Tori Avey)
Classic Red Sangria
You could pass around standard glasses of Manischewitz, or you could use the red wine to make a fruity sangria. Since Manischewitz is already so sweet, you don't need to add any sugar to the mix. (via Kitchen Treaty)

Thanks to Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer (as well as all the pros behind the camera), the best TV scene of 2023 came out this summer when The Summer I Turned Prettygave us Steven and Taylor (played by Sean and Rain, respectively) dancing to Frank Ocean's cover of "Moon River." I absolutely lost my mind! This series is one of the best teen dramas around, and good news for fans of all things Cousins Beach: we're getting The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3! Here's everything we know about the new TV show— including a look at our convo with lead actress Lola Tung!
When will The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 come out?
Image via Erika Doss/Prime Video
Jackie Chung (Laurel) and Sean Kaufman (Steven)
We were hoping to see The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 return in 2024, but thanks to the industry strikes during the summer of 2023, it looks like we might not get our first episode until 2025. Okay, TBH that's a total bummer (just because we can't wait to watch!!), but here's hoping it will premiere in the spring of 2025 — to make the summer even better!
Lola Tung is currently starring as Euridyce in Hadestown on Broadway, and will be in the show until March 17. During the official press day — which you can watch on TikTok — she told me that while she doesn't know too much about Belly's arc this season, she's just as excited to return to Cousins Beach as we are!
"I'm just very excited to be back with everyone and to be able to step back into Belly's shoes, I'm super excited," she says. Since she finished her run with Hadestown on March 17, she should be able to start filming anytime — and according to @FilmUpdates on X (formerly Twitter), it looks like the show will begin filming the week of March 19. According to the Wilmington Regional Film Commission, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 is officially in pre-production.
Where can I watch The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3?
Image via Erika Doss/Prime Video
Christopher Briney (Conrad), Lola Tung (Belly)
The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will be available to stream on Prime Video, which is where you can watch season 1 and 2 right now!
Who's going to be in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 cast?
Image via Erika Doss/Prime Video
Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah), Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad), Sean Kaufman (Steven) in The Summer I Turned Pretty
Considering the third book, We'll Always Have Summer, revolves around Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah, we're expecting The Summer I Turned Pretty cast to include Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno. We're also hoping to see Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, Jackie Chung, and Rachel Blanchard again!
How old are the characters?
Image via Erika Doss/Prime Video
Lola Tung (Belly) and Christopher Briney (Conrad)
In season one, Conrad is going to be a freshman in college, while the rest of the characters are still in high school. And at the beginning of season 2, Steven graduates from high school!
How many episodes will there be?
Image via Erika Doss/Prime Video
Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad), and Rain Spencer (Taylor)
The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will have 10 episodes instead of eight like the previous two seasons!
Where is The Summer I Turned Pretty filmed?
Image via Amazon Studios/Prime Video
Even though The Summer I Turned Pretty is set on the coast of Massachusetts, the show is filming in Wilmington, North Carolina. This city is actually pretty well known in Hollywood — projects like Iron Man 3,One Tree Hill, and Outer Banks have filmed there! As someone who grew up going to Wilmington every single summer, I can promise you it's just as pretty as it looks (and the fair from season 2 is just as fun!!)
Is there a 4th Summer I Turned Pretty?
Image via John Merrick/Prime Video
Christopher Briney (Conrad), Lola Tung (Belly)
There is not a fourth The Summer I Turned Pretty book, but that doesn't mean the show has to end with season 3. They've already changed a few details from the books — namely, adding the Stephen/Taylor relationship reminds me of how Gossip Girl gave us Chuck and Blair, a fan-favorite ship that wasn't in those books either! I'm excited to see how the story (and the characters) continue to grow and evolve!
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Announcement
The Summer I Turned Pretty - Season Three Announcement | Prime Video
Prime Video announced the renewal on August 3, right before episode five of the second season hit the streaming service. Just like the season two trailer, Taylor Swift's "august" plays in the background and I'm in tears.
“We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Amazon and MGM Studios' head of television Vernon Sanders says in a press release. “Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story. We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more Summer to look forward to."

I'll follow Reese Witherspoon just about anywhere.Legally Blonde, Love in Fairhope, and Where the Crawdads Sing are just a few of her projects that leave me feeling totally empowered and overjoyed when I watch them. Hello Sunshine has plenty of exciting stories on the horizon, and thanks to our AMC queen Nicole Kidman, we now know that includes Big Little Lies season 3. We're ready to head back to Monterey, and we're not the only ones.
Turns out, Nicole Kidman put out feelers for Big Little Lies season 3 after watching the series with her daughter Sunday. “She was like, ‘No. There’s no more discussion. The third series has to happen…I’m sick of the talk. Sick of circling it. Just get it done,’” Nicole tells Vogue Australia. “You need a teenager to go, ‘Enough. Just do it.’” Here's everything we know about season 3.
When is Big Little Lies season 3 coming out?
Image via HBO
We don't have any official news about a release date, and since season 1 and season 2 released at different points of the year (as opposed to Outer Banks, which has always come out somewhere around summer), it's a bit harder to pinpoint when a new season could hit our screens.
However, Nicole Kidman tells Elle there *is* a timeline for Big Little Lies season 3. “I think when you’re all scattered and never sort of cross paths, it’s very, very different," she says. "But when you’re all still very intertwined, that’s what makes it doable, because there’s a willingness and you want to spend time together."
Personally, I'm hoping for a winter 2025 release date!
Will there be a season 3 of Big Little Lies?
Image via HBO
It looks like yes, there will be a Big Little Lies season 3! During the CME Group Tour Championship, Nicole Kidman talked about her involvement in the series.
"I loved Big Little Lies," she said during a Q&A (shared in an Instagram story by Deux Moi). "It sort of came along at a time in my life when I had my children and I was thinking I was going to retire. And then this situation came along, where Reese Witherspoon and I were able to produce that show and create that show. And then all of you watched it and made it a massive success...And we will be bringing you a third one, just FYI."
Laura Dern would also love to do Big Little Lies season 3! "Well, let's just say we're best friends in art and in life," Laura tells TODAY. "And there would be nothing more fun for all of us. You know, we would have the time of our lives."
Shailene Woodley recently spoke about a potential third season, too. In an interview with Bazaar, she expressed her excitement to explore the show's characters that are a little more grown up now.
"I think what excites me about the possibility of a third season, more than what I could think of with Jane, is the fact that these children [on the show] are not children anymore. They’re teenagers now!" she said. "Their voices have dropped, they all have their teenage situation happening, and the angst is kicking in, and that, to me, is what is exciting about the possibility of a third season. What does life look like for those people who are not children anymore?"
Despite Zoë Kravitz admitting she didn't think the series would return, it looks like we'll get a junior season after all. At the red carpet pre-show for the Golden Globes on January 7, Reese Witherspoon officially confirmed that Big Little Lies season 3 is in the works. She said, "Nic and I have been working on it a lot." Soooooo, *this* is the news I needed this week.
What happened at the end of Big Little Lies season 2?
Image via Hilary Bronwyn Gayle/HBO
To put it simply, Big Little Lies season 2 ended in pure chaos. Each of the Monterey Five have their own singular victories — Bonnie lets go of her husband and makes peace with her mother, Celeste gets full custody of her kids, and Madeline renews her vows to Ed — before they walk into the police station together. We're guessing it's so Bonnie can confess to her role in Perry's death, but it looks like we'll have to wait for season 3 to find out. One surprising detail about the end of season 2, however, is what *didn't* happen.
"There was someone that was supposed to die," Zoë Kravitz revealed to Vanity Fair in 2020. "It wasn’t me, but I don’t know what I’m allowed to say, so I don’t know. But someone did die. But I think the way we ended the season was obviously really intriguing, but also everyone got to come together and I think that felt important to everybody." Because that death didn't happen, it would only make sense for it to have gotten pushed to season 3...right?
Who's in the Big Little Lies cast?
Image via Jennifer Clasen/HBO
The Big Little Lies cast is almost too good to be true. In addition to Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Zoë Kravitz, the show stars Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Kathryn Newton, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgård, and Adam Scott.
How many seasons of Big Little Lies are there?
Image via HBO
So far there are two seasons of Big Little Lies, both of which you can watch on Max now. If you go ahead and press play, that means you'll have enough time to rewatch every episode before Big Little Lies season 3 drops. Trust me — you'll want to ;).
What town is Big Little Lies in?
Image via HBO
Big Little Lies takes place in Monterey, California. Unlike some other series that have to shoot off location, Big Little Lies actually does film in Monterey so all of the scenes and settings are authentic!
What is the message of Big Little Lies?
Image via HBO
Like so many of Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine's projects, Big Little Lies explores a number of important and relevant issues families deal with in the real world: domestic violence, blended and single parent homes, and how far you're willing to go to protect the people you love.
Is there a spin off of Big Little Lies?
Image via Vince Valitutti/Hulu
Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers (which is based on the book of the same name by Liane Moriarty, who also wrote Big Little Lies!) serves as a Big Little Lies reunion of sorts — the show stars Nicole Kidman as actress and executive producer, along with Big Little Lies' producers Bruna Papandrea and David E. Kelley.

"Bridgerton" Season 4's Rumored Love Interest Is Literally Perfect
Chloe Williams
Mar 19, 2024
I haven't even seen season 3 of Bridgertonin all its friends-to-lovers, springtime, romantic glory, and I'm already thinking about Bridgerton season 4. I'm a sucker for any storyline about siblings, and while we're still waiting on official confirmation, it looks like season 4 of Bridgerton will follow Benedict and his love interest Sophie — who may have already been cast 👀. Here's everything you need to know about season 4 of the hit TV show.
Will there be season 4 of Bridgerton?
Image via Liam Daniel/Netflix
Yes, we're getting a Bridgerton season 4! After the popularity of the first season, Netflix renewed the series for another two seasons in 2021. I'm expecting the senior season of the Shondaland show to follow An Offer from a Gentleman, which revolves around second-eldest son Benedict. The novel has major Cinderella vibes, and follows servant Sophie, who falls in love with Benedict at a masquerade ball. Dreamy!
Who's in the Bridgerton season 4 cast?
Image via Jeff Spicer/Getty Images
We're sure to see Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton, as well as Luke Newton, Nicola Coughlan, Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Claudia Jessie, Hannah Dodd, Will Tilston, and Florence Hunt as the rest of the Bridgertons + their spouses.
As for the role of Sophie, rumor has it we might see Masali Baduza join the Netflix show. You might recognize the actress from movies like The Woman King and Slumber Party Massacre. "They never disappoint, casting geniuses," one Reddit user says. "If this is true, I love it!"
While the absolutely *radiant* Masali would do a wonderful job as Sophie, some fans of the series have hesitations over a Black woman playing the role of a servant — especially if the theory the show will place her in the white Cowper family is true. "As a Black woman, just no," another user says. "Sophie is the love interest who in my opinion is the most sh*tted on by her Bridgerton and the story of a white person trying to hide their association with a Black person is a little too real."
"It makes me uncomfortable too," another adds. "Actually the entire Benophie plot sounds awful if I’m honest but to then put it on a Black woman on top of that makes it even worse."
When is Bridgerton season 4 coming out?
Image via Liam Daniel/Netflix
Considering part one of Bridgerton season 3 is hitting Netflix May 16, 2024, we definitely won't see season 4 of Bridgerton for awhile. So far, there have been two years in between each season, so I'm expecting season 4 to start streaming in 2026.
How many episodes will season 4 of Bridgerton have?
Image via Liam Daniel/Netflix
Considering all three seasons of Bridgerton so far have eight episodes each, we can expect Netflix to keep up that pattern. Having the same number of episodes each season means the pace and arc for each Bridgerton sibling will be equal, making it a much more balanced watching experience!
Will Bridgerton have all 8 seasons?
Image via Liam Daniel/Netflix
Yes, Bridgerton will have all 8 seasons, one for each Bridgerton sibling — at least, that's the plan. "This being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure," showrunner Chris Van Dusen tells Collider.
After Bridgerton season 4, I'm most interested to see youngest sibling Hyacinth's love story play out! Seeing her arc throughout all eight seasons, especially mirrored with the way her brothers and sisters evolve over the course of the show, is going to be the perfect way to wrap this series up.
